The Week 6 matchup between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Calgary Stampeders on July 15, 2023 is expected to be an exciting game filled with drama and intrigue. The Riders are coming off a controversial recent victory, and both have something to prove in this critical game, which could have implications for the rest of the season.
The Roughriders have played poorly at times but are in a solid place in the CFL standings. As of Week 6, the Saskatchewan Roughriders are sitting in third place in the West Division with a record of 3-1, while the Calgary Stampeders are in fourth place in the West Division with a record of 1-3.
Saskatchewan Roughriders
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have had a solid start to the season, but they have not been without their struggles. The highlight of their season so far came in Week 1 when they defeated the Edmonton Elks in a dominating performace. However, they followed that up with a disappointing loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Week 2. One of the biggest strengths of this team is their defense. Through five games, they have allowed only 23.7 points per game and really if you remove the Week 2 blip against Winnipeg their defense has been excellent. Their pass defense has been particularly impressive. The defensive line has also been superb, with Micah Johnson and Larry Dean leading the way.
Offensively, the Roughriders have been solid, but they have not been spectacular. Trevor Harris, their starting quarterback, has been decent through five games, throwing for 1,159 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. His completion percentage of 66.2% is solid, but he has struggled with turnovers at times. Fortunately, he has a talented group of receivers to throw to, led by Tevin Jones and Samuel Emilus. The team has also been getting good production from running back Jamal Morrow, who has rushed for 290 yards.
Injury Report
Heading into the Week 6 matchup, both teams have some key players who are either dealing with injuries or coming back from injuries. For the Saskatchewan Roughriders, WR Jake Wieneke is listed as OUT. Wieneke is one of the team’s best players on offense, so he will be greatly missed. DB Rodney Clemons is listed as DOUBTFUL for the game as well. The Riders have a number of injuries to their defense besides Clemons. They will also be without Millgan Jr., Reavis, Lanier II, Korte-Moore, and more.

Prediction
This matchup between the Roughriders and the Stampeders is an easy one for me! On one hand, the Roughriders have been playing well defensively and have a solid offense led by Trevor Harris. On the other hand, the Stampeders have the experience and talent to turn things around and could be a dangerous team if they can get their offense going.
Ultimately, we are going to give the edge to the Roughriders in this one. Their defense has been excellent this season, and we expect them to be able to shut down the Stampeders’ struggling offense. Trevor Harris should be able to make enough plays on offense to lead the Roughriders to a close victory. Final Score Prediction: Saskatchewan Roughriders 26, Calgary Stampeders 20.
