The Montreal Alouettes announced on Tuesday that they have extended Davis Alexander by year which will retain him with the Alouettes through the 2028 season. He had signed a 3-year contract with the Alouettes ahead of the 2025 season that previously would have expired after the 2027 season.
Alexander is a quarterback with great poise in the pocket and the ability to make accurate throws downfield. He also possesses the ability to threaten defenses on the ground.
“We are thrilled to have reached an agreement to extend Alexander’s contract,” stated Alouettes’ General Manager Danny Maciocia. “We are committed to him, and he is committed to this team, the city of Montreal, and the province of Quebec. In his first year as the starting quarterback, Davis did an exceptional job. We look forward to seeing where he will take us in the coming years.”
Davis Alexander helped lead the Alouettes to the Grey Cup in his first season as a starter. Over his 3 playoff games this year, he completed 65 of his 94 passes for 878 yards and 2 touchdowns with 5 interceptions, 3 of which occurred in the Grey Cup. He completed 72.5% of his passes in the regular season for 2,024 yards and 10 touchdowns with 3 interceptions over 7 regular-season games in what was a year limited by a hamstring injury.
Alexander joined the Alouettes ahead of the 2022 season but didn’t get his first start until 2024, which saw him go 4-0 as a starter in place of an injured Cody Fajardo. Heading into the Grey Cup, Alexander had a 13-0 record, which was the greatest win-loss record by a quarterback to ever start a CFL career.
The Alouettes have been one of the busier teams early into this CFL offseason, having already re-signed several big names headed toward free agency, including: WR Tyson Philpot, OG Donny Ventrelli, OG Pier-Olivier Lestage, and K Jose Maltos Diaz.
The extension of Davis Alexander comes 1 day after Montreal signed defensive back Faion hicks to a 2-year contract. Hicks was a 7th-round pick by the Denver Broncos in 2022, where he appeared in 2 games and subsequently spent time on various NFL practice squads. He was most recently with the FL with the Birmingham Stallions, where he played in 3 games with 1 star,t recording 3 total tackles.
